Kyle Allen leads Panthers to first win of the season

The Panthers have had receivers open in other games this season. Having a quarterback who was physically able to get it to them apparently makes a difference. Replacement quarterback Kyle Allen was very good in relief of the injured Cam Newton, leading the Panthers to a 38-20 road win over the Cardinals to move them

4 Panthers who need to step up Week 3 vs. Cardinals

The Carolina Panthers are already in must-win mode going into their Week 3 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.

Starting the season 0-3 would end any realistic hope of the team making the playoffs this year. If they're going to avoid that fate, here are four guys who need to step up their game on Sunday.

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Cam Newton has not officially been ruled out yet, but it certainly sounds like Kyle Allen will be playing in his place this week. The last time Allen started for the Panthers, he looked sharp. Allen posted 228 passing yards, two touchdowns and a 111.3 passer rating in a win over the Saints in the last game of 2018. However, he struggled in the preseason. To add to the pressure, this is a homecoming game for Allen, who grew up in nearby Scottsdale, AZ

Newton's favorite opponent, the Bucs, visit Thursday night

Cam Newton enjoys facing the Buccaneers. The only thing is, this might not be the same Panthers quarterback who has thrown for 29 touchdowns against Tampa Bay. Newton was so-so in the opening loss to the Rams, and his minus-2 yards rushing were a career low. He did go 25 ...

Panthers ranked No. 15 in NFL heading into Week 2

The Carolina Panthers are 0-1 after one week of play. On the bright side, they pushed the reigning NFC champions to a three-point game and still have plenty of reasons to feel confident about their team this year. The biggest one? Christian McCaffrey's general ascension and the video game numbers he posted against the Rams.

Heading into Week 2, Doug Farrar at Touchdown Wire has the Panthers ranked No. 15 in the league.

"The star of the show for the Panthers in their 30-27 loss to the Rams was running back Christian McCaffrey, who has gone against positional type by becoming a truly indispensable part of his team. . . His performance was all the more remarkable given that Cam Newton didn't throw a touchdown pass and struggled with his accuracy throughout the game. That, and a run defense that didn't show up against the Rams, will have to be solved if the Panthers are to recover against the Buccaneers on Thursday night.

Cam Newton admits he's "a little rusty"

Cam Newton admitted he wasn't himself yesterday, but he insisted he was physically well. The Panthers quarterback had an up-and-down day in their loss to the Rams, but said his surgically repaired right shoulder wasn't the problem. "A little rusty. Just have to get on the same page with everybody," Newton said, via Bill Voth
