Dongers Club: Thu, 8/30

There are eight games tonight on the MLB main slate, and the ScoutArmy is hot and ready to roll.

I love how steady Folty has been and really how he has emerged into a top 2 pitcher this season. I've been high on him all along and the match-up against the Cubs tonight might scare some, but not me. The Cubs going into Atlanta might appear hot, however they had extreme heat and strong winds helping them at home in Wrigleyville the past few days and tonight it's 79 and winds blowing in down in Atlanta. Love Folty in tournaments today.

Robbie Ray

Ray has DOMINATED the Dodgers squad -- but they're a little different team now with Dozier and Machado at the top, so that is why he is #2 for me today behind Folty. Like Folty, Ray can be on and throw up double digit strikeouts before the 5th inning is over, but I do think he has more risk and the win is in question here tonight. Huge series in LA.

German Marquez

Simply picking on the poor here, the Padres have a .304 wOBA and .129 ISO against RHP and have plenty of GB guys who Marquez can induce easy outs with tonight. If he avoids walks -- which he should -- then he will give you a nice medium/safe score. Not a ton of K% upside IMO though.

Rick Porcello ... I feel he pitches up or down to the level of his competition and as noted by @FantasyBum73 he relies on his sinker too much which is a pitch Davidson and Palka can jack out of the yard. Porcello should be chalk agains the CWS and I don't love a Porcello chalk spot.

Value Arms ... Tonight is a night to take the potential of two 30+ point nights from the high end guys, so I am fading the likes of Liriano, Giolito, Lauer, Montas, Montgomery and Gant. None of them are in spots to break 15 DK points tonight and I think the three guys above are all in the ballpark of 25+ raw points tonight.

I don't see any must own stacks tonight or teams that should come out and put up 8-9 runs today, so it feels like a good combo night to build the best plays at each position and pair them with one guy from the batting order.

Below are the teams I like the most for offense.

Yankees ... Stanton, Gleyber, Voit

In that stadium and in 80+ degree temps and against Liriano they could easily walk their way into a bunch of 2-run homers after Liriano puts men on base by being wild and then gives up a little home run. The three HR bats I like the most are Stanton, Gleyber and Voit, but I would MAKE SURE to play 2 Yankees batting in consecutive order if you use them tonight.

Braves ... Camargo, Flowers

The bottom of the order continues to rake vs LHP and as we saw yesterday, Camargo torched one out once a Lefty came into the game. They get Montgomery on the mound tonight so everyone Freeman on down is where I would focus.

D'Backs... Pollock, Goldy, Souza

CATCHER - Not a spot that has much depth or appeal to it today....

  1. Tyler Flowers ... The top C tonight, it's him Yadi or punt.
  2. Yadi Molina
  3. James McCann

  1. Freddie Freeman ... Voit will be popular today and is only $300 cheaper than Freeman, so Freddie is a great tournament pivot with high upside.
  2. Luke Voit ... See Freddie
  3. Paul Goldschmidt ... Love playing Goldy in LA, his career numbers in Dodger stadium rival that of Ryan Braun in Philadelphia

SECOND BASE - Easily the worst position on the slate.

  1. Luis Urias
  2. DJ LeMahieu
  3. Josh Harrison

  1. NOLAN ... #1 play on the slate for me. Born and raised in SoCal, Nolan has had some big games in PETCO park and tonight draws the worst arm on the slate who happens to be a lefty. Sign me up.
  2. Johan Camargo
  3. Miguel Andujar

  1. Gleyber Torres
  2. Jose Rondon
  3. Trevor Story
  4. Marcus Semien ... Another value play

  1. Giancarlo Stanton
  2. Carlos Gonzalez
  3. Charlie Blackmon
  4. Khris Davis

  1. Nick Castellanos
  2. Aaron Hicks
  3. AJ Pollock
  4. Gregory Polanco

  1. Kole Calhoun
  2. Daniel Palka
  3. Adam Duvall
  4. Mikie Mahtook

  1. Paul Goldschmidt - 1B - Chairman & CEO
  2. Nolan Arenado - 3B
  3. Daniel Palka - OF
  4. Giancarlo STanton - OF
  5. Mikie Mahtook - OF
  6. Marcus Semien - SS
  7. Luis Urias - 2B
  8. Rene Rivera - C
  9. BONUS ............... Luke Voit - 1B
