NHL DFS: Slap Shot - 12/23

The NHL will go on a break until Friday of this week so tonight is your last night to get some puck action in over the Holidays. The slate has Eleven (11) games on it with three 10 PM late night hammers to sweat out as well as you enjoy the MNF game tonight too. If you are into that sorta thing.

Elias Pettersson - C - Vancouver

The Canucks are playing their fourth straight home game tonight and Pettersson has been on fire of late. He has 5 goals over the last 6 games and is coming off a nice 1 goal on one shot luck box performance against the Penguins who are decent defensively. Tonight though he draws an Edmonton team who has given up 10 goals to opposing centers over their last two weeks and overall is very middle of the pack defensively. Of the three late game hammers tonight, the Canucks are my top team led by Elias and Boesser combination. If you wanna go cheaper, consider Bo Horvat as a one off.

Other top Centers:

  • Jack Eichel (BUF) -- Too expensive for my taste tonight
  • Jonathan Toews (CHI)
  • Matt Duchene (NSH)
  • Alexsander Barkov (FLA) -- They have shuffled their lines but $5900??? WTF
  • Brayden Point (TB)

Value One Off:

  • Marcus Johansen (BUF)

Viktor Arvidsson - W - Nashville

You'll see below that I really like the Preds and this game tonight in general. So normally one would say why go with a guy who is just returning after a month long absence? Pffft. Whatever, I say! If the Preds ship is going to go down tonight then I am going to go down with one of their better players even if he is potentially a little rusty. This is a case of taking the nice value of $5,000 Arvidsson who should be near $6k and pairing him with RyJo or the Defenseman tonight. At his price, one goal is enough but three points in general is a slate breaker. Get Arvy in your lineups tonight and celebrate with some Carrie Underwood GIFs.

Other top Wingers:

  • Patty Kane (CHI)
  • Leon Draisaitl (EDM)
  • Travis Konecny (PHI)
  • Taylor Hall (ARI)
  • Kyle Connor (WPG)

Value Wingers:

  • Alex Killorn (TB)
  • Jordan Eberle (NYI)
  • Frank Vantrano (FLA)

John Carlson - D - Washington

Carlson has been the best D-man this season and is known now as Johnny Norris. Tonight he gets a team in Boston who has yielded some hefty production to opposing D-Men of late and oh yeah by the way he is from the Boston area and the Caps usually play extremely well against the Bruins. Consider paying up for Carlson tonight in the category of "yeah, that won't suck" today.

Other top D-Men:

  • Roman Josi / Ryan Ellis (NSH)
  • Thomas Chabot (OTT)
  • Victor Hedman (TB)
  • Ivan Provorov (PHI)

  • Duncan Keith (CHI)
  • Justin Faulk (STL)

Nashville Predators (vs Arizona)

I realize that the Arizona Coyotes are still the 'Arizona Coyotes' and they played yesterday evening but the Nashville Predators are NOT a better team overall than Arizona. So why in the world does Vegas of all things have them as a very confident -140 favorite tonight on home ice? Just because of the back to back? Sure, I guess I'll bite with a little Carrie Underwood home action. One thing that has been very beneficial for playing the Predators in DFS is going 2 defenseman because Josi & Ellis are two of their better scoring all around players and I wouldn't hate that idea tonight stacking this spot. It's probably one of my favorite game stacks on the board as well given how bad Nashville is defensively.

Preds Stack: Johansen, Arvidsson, Josi

Tampa Bay (vs Florida)

High scoring games between the two Florida based teams are the norm. We saw the Panthers produce a high scoring game last Friday night (as I suspected) with their new line-up and now they draw a much deeper scoring team in Tampa Bay and on the road. If you pay up for a stud line tonight the Point-Kuch combination should be more than sufficient but this is always a spot where you should find value when two teams are expected to have a 5-4 type game and the whole world is going to be chasing Noel Acciarri and his back to back hat tricks. Nah, not so fast my friends. This is a Frank Vatrano or Vincent Trocheck type game. Those are the one offs for Florida to make sure you have tonight and I am fully on board with a full game stack lineup on this game that features Alex Killorn and of course a Tampa Defenseman vs Florida. I'd keep riding Florida game stacks while they are shuffled on their lines until it doesnt pay off.

Mix and Match Game Stack to piss off the correlation crowd: Trocheck, Vatrano, Ekblad, Point, Kuch, Killorn, Hedman

Winnipeg (vs Montreal)

Winnipeg is winning 6-1 tonight. Or so I think they are. This is a very expensive top line stack but if they're gonna go off then it'll obviously pay off. With so many games there's gonna be a temptation to use lines like Boston, Tampa, Washington, Colorado, etc. just to get the big name exposure. But Winnipeg should shred the Canadiens tonight and we're always due for one of those Carey Price shit the bed and give up 5 goals in the first 27 minutes games. Kyle Connor is a must in this stack.

WPG Jets: Scheifele - Laine - Connor

Carter Hart (Flyers) ... Flyers have dominated Rangers at home. Hart great at home in his young career.

Laurent Brossoit (Jets)

LINE LOCK OF THE NIGHT: Scheifele - Laine - Connor (Jets)

STUD WINGER: Patrick Kane (Blackhawks)

VALUE WINGER: Frank Vatrano (Panthers)

TOP D-MAN: John Carlson (Caps)

TOP BET OF THE NIGHT: Coyotes / Predators O 5.5
