NHL DFS: The Point Shot – 9/27 Preseason

*Note – These write-ups will be more detailed during the regular season as skater lines, data, and other factors are more clearcut.

Games on the Slate

New York Rangers at Philadelphia Flyers

New Jersey Devils at Winnipeg Jets

Ottawa Senators at Chicago Blackhawks

Arizona Coyotes at Edmonton Oilers

Calgary Flames at San Jose Sharks

Top Goalies

Carter Hart (PHI)

Hart is starting and expected to go the full game for the Flyers tonight. He's their top goaltending prospect and the future between the pipes for the Flyers. With the Rangers under-manned and offensively challenged as it is, expect a strong effort out of Hart tonight.

Connor Hellebuyck (WPG)

Helly should get the start tonight and more than likely go the full distance in this Winnipeg's last preseason game. A Vezina finalist last season, Hellebuyck stands tall as a true workhorse leading all goaltenders with 67 games played last season. He went 30-5-2 on home ice and went 2-0 with a .949 save percentage and a 2.00 GAA against the Devils in what was a breakout campaign for the Michigan native.

Anton Forsberg (CHI)

Forsberg will man the crease for the entire 60 minutes of tonight's tilt against Ottawa. This will be his third preseason appearance as he's seen the Detroit Red Wings in both of his games thus far. Last season with Corey Crawford battling injury, Forsberg saw much more playing time than anticipated at the outset of the season playing in 35 games, posting a 2.97 GAA and a .908 save percentage. At his salary, he should be able to do what Cam Ward COULDN'T the other night against Detroit. Produce.

Key Three Skaters

This section will cover my three favorite skaters for a particular slate overall.

Jakub Voracek (PHI)

Voracek skates on the Flyers' second with Nolan Patrick and James van Riemsdyk. Tonight, with the Flyers' first line sitting this one out, Voracek's line will be the de-facto first line and thus see more important ice time, including in powerplay situations. The Rangers will start their backup goaltender tonight and rest many of their regulars after playing last night.

Patrik Laine (WPG)

Laine has yet to find the back of the net in three preseason games this season but he's due based on his shot volume. The 20-year-old sniper has three goals in four career games against the Devils and has scored 39 goals on home ice over the last two seasons. Look for him to pepper the Devils' backup Keith Kinkaid tonight.

Connor McDavid (EDM)

McDavid is the highest priced skater tonight and for good reason. In a matchup against the Coyotes, a team that was ranked 24th in the league last season against centers, McDavid had just three points, all assists, but did generate 14 shots on goal in four games. The Oilers' top line of McDavid, Ty Rattie, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been clicking on all cylinders during the preseason and that should continue tonight.

Sneaky Skater

Dominik Kahun (CHI)

The 23-year-old winger has turned a lot of heads this preseason and is getting top-line minutes skating alongside Jonathan Toews and Alex DeBrincat. With how he's been producing (two goals, two assists, four shots on goal) in three preseason games, Joel Quenneville has said he'll keep Kahun on this productive line rather than Patrick Kane in hopes to create scoring balance across all three lines. While he may not be as "sneaky" as we would like, his salary of $4,200 offers a ton of relief. Keep in mind, he is listed as a center on DK making it a challenge to pair him up with Toews. Consider pairing him with DeBrincat in this case OR if you are inclined to stack the entire line, Kahun in the utility spot with Toews at one center and DeBrincat at one wing is a strategy that I can get on board with.
