NHL DFS: The Slapshot - 2/28

With seven games to close out the month of February we have a perfectly sized Thursday slate and a unique spot where four of the teams are on the second leg of back to backs and all are on the road tonight.  I do kinda say that every slate is nice, but hey, that's optimism for you.  I will be flying solo on today's article, so use this for all your cash and tournament spots tonight and lets get rolling.

THREE ONE OFFS THAT STAND OUT

This is my variation of Rob Geriak's key three skaters. He does a fantastic job of understanding the match-ups and the data and focusing on the players who are key to balance your lineup around. Similarly to that I am going to identify three guys who have the best overall match-ups today in my mind, but these aren't necessarily the top DFS Stack or CORE plays for today, but rather guys who are in ideal spots.

Cam Atkinson, $7500 - Columbus ... Cam is on a roll and not shocking given the addition of Matt Duchene to this top line and with Panarin staying put. The full CBJ 1 line is going to be hard to fit in tonight given the price across the board here but it's really hard to overlook Cam who has goals in three straight (he's always been a streaky scorer) and draws a fairly favorable match-up against Philadelphia -- who he has taken to the woodshed in recent history (how's 7 goals in 3 of the last 4 games these teams have met?). Columbus owns Philly, you'll see them mentioned again for sure in this article.

Tyler Seguin, $7600 - Dallas ... Seguin had 8 SOG in a 2-1 loss back in January to the Kings and the overall game does not leap out as one that should be high scoring, but Seguin is the top play from this game given that the Kings have struggled defensively against centers over the last four weeks and Seguin is a Center we can pay up for given his high SOG volume. He will score a goal tonight in my mind.

Jakob Chychrun, $4400 - Arizona ... The Coyotes have won four in a row and welcome in Vancouver who should have gotten blow out last night in Colorado if not for Jake Markstrom standing on his head early to keep them in the game. We're gonna need some value plays tonight and while Chychrun isn't a deep bargain play he should give you good value tonight. He has points in three of the last four and I like Arizona again tonight facing Vancouver on B2B at home.

STACKS TO TARGET

Columbus Blue Jackets ... (PLD/Duchene) - Atkinson - Panarin - Werenski

Hey Torts.... Who's gonna center Atkinson and Panarin?

Gee, thanks .... Torts gonna Torts here. Logic would say Duchene-Atkinson-Panarin again right? Well, last game it wound up being PLD-Atkinson-Panarin 18% of the time and the $1700 savings on having PLD center Cam and Panarin would be tremendous to lock in today. But certainly if it winds up being Duchene then he could end up having a huge game. Given that I really like the Blue Jackets a ton today against Philadelphia I would be okay even if we ended up with PLD and Cam on different lines but having them together in our DFS line-ups today. Cam owns Philly and we should see the CBJ defensemen pitch in as well and that brings Jones/Werenski dead into play with Zach being the cheaper play to help with roster construction.

Vegas Golden Knights ... Karlsson - Marchessault - Smith - Theodore

Vegas welcomes in Florida today and they dead/tired/slow against Florida in their previous meeting this year but with Stone being added to the second line I think we'll see an overall bump from Vegas offensively. The Panthers are one of the best teams to target tonight and the really low price on this full VGK1 stack is going to make them a popular play today. I'd eat this chalk.

SNEAKY STACK OF THE NIGHT

NY Islanders ... Nelson - Eberle - Lee

Vegas thinks this will be a low scoring game. I don't. All eyes will be on the John Tavares return to New York where he surely will receive a nice standing .... LOL. Yeah right, they're gonna be amped up for this one big time. Love this game to be high scoring and love the Isles top line along with Barzal if you want to mix in some more PP1 exposure.

Ottawa Senators ... Duclair - Tkachuk - White - Chabot

The Sens might start to play a little better down the stretch now that the trade deadline has come and gone and some of the lower line guys get more NHL exposure. I like them today vs Edmonton off a B2B and in a game that should have plenty of action on both ends.

OTHER FORWARDS TO TARGET

  1. Seguin / Radulov (Stars)
  2. Bergeron / Marchand (Boston)
  3. Tavares / Marner / Hyman (Leafs)
  4. Couturier / Voracek (Flyers)

Value Spots

  1. Duclair / Tkachuk / White (Ottawa)
  2. Cousins / Keller / Galchenyuk (Coyotes)

DEFENSEMAN

Thomas Chabot (OTT)

Zach Werenski (CLB)

Jakob Chychrun (ARI)

Ryan Pulock (NYI)

John Klingberg (DAL)

Shea Theodore (VGK)

GOALIES

Both Tuuka Rask (BOS) and Robin Lehner (NYI) are interesting plays to me at home against the Leafs/Bolts who are on B2B. Tough perceived match-ups but I like the shot volume and the win upside for both of these guys today. Outside of them though these are your best options at goalie today ...

Anton Khudobin (DAL) ... The Kings are bad, I'll pick on them all the time. Should be a chalky goalie option tonight.

Craig Anderson (OTT) ... Senators goalie a top option? Yep. For 7k at home vs the Oilers, Craig should see lots of shots today and I think he can be good GPP salary relief option.

THE Slap ... SHOTS
