Scouting the NHL: Fri 10/13
Five games tonight, fantastic slate to crush your tournaments with a little chalk fade... We will get on a roll again like we did to start the season last week. Keep grinding!
Tonights B2B Teams
Detroit is playing in Las Vegas on a B2B after being in Arizona last night. Short flight, but Vegas is going to be tough at home this year IMO.
CAPS ... The Devils are giving up the second most shots per game so far and there's no reason not to expect another 35+ shots from the high powered Capitals tonight. Washington will be one of the two popular stacks this evening but the nice thing is that we should see some even distribution between the top two lines. For me, since they're on the road I am looking at huge night from the Backstrom-Oshie-Burakovsky trio that also gives us exposure to the Caps top PP unit.
DUCKS ... The other popular team tonight has to be the Ducks. They're always a highly productive team and are far superior than the Colorado Avalanche who have problems with puck control. The Ducks are also healthy now with Getzlaf and Eaves together and I think both top lines light the lamp tonight. Getzlaf-Eaves-Perry and Rakell-Silfverberg with Beauchemin as a contrarian pivot off Cam Fowler.
SENATORS / FLAMES ... This game could be a shootout tonight and of the five games it's the only one that I am looking to gamestack. For the Senators, Mike Hoffman is close to going off with a multi-goal game but it's the Ryan-Brassard-Stone line who I expect to produce. The Flames top line is dynamite at home and I expect Johnny Hockey Gaudreau to score again tonight with Monahan being the combo play. The Flames have a ton of defenseman who contribute on the power play and are affordable (Giordano, Hamilton and Brodie). Brodie skates with Johnny G and Monahan on the top PP unit but Dougie Hamilton sticks out to me tonight as someone who should provide a good return for his price.
- Rickard Rakell (ANA) - The man who drives the Ducks second line which has been very good to start the season.
- Nick Backstrom (WAS)
- Sea Monahan (CGY)
- Nathan MacKinnon (COL)
- Kyle Turris (OTT)
- Jakob Silfverberg (ANA) - If you are wondering why I am always on him it's because he's skating with Rakell and usually shoots 3-5 times and is always priced in the affordable winger range.
- Patrick Eaves (ANA) - His FD price is a joke. He's too cheap for his upside
- Cam Atkinson (CLB) - Pair him with Wennberg. I really like this combo tonight.
- TJ Oshie (WAS)
- Jonathan Marchessault (LAS)
- Johnny Gaudreau (CGY)
- Mike Hoffman (OTT)
- Jesper Bratt (NJ) - Value one off
- John Carlson (WAS)
- Dougie Hamilton (CGY)
- Mark Giordano (CGY)
- Mike Green (DET)
- Zach Werenski (CLB)
- Francois Beachemin (ANA)
Marc-Andre Fluery (Unconfirmed) ... Fluery is where I want to go tonight. Detroit is on the second road game of a B2B and after watching the energy in their first home game I strongly feel that teams are going to struggle to play in Vegas the same way they did in Winnipeg when the Jets first moved up there.
Sergei Bobrovsky (CONFIRMED) ... S-Bob will draw the start tonight against Lundqvist and the Rangers. The Blue Jackets top goalie has been rock solid to start the season giving up only one goal in his two starts and the Rangers aren't lighting the world on fire with their offense yet.
Jonathan Bernier (CONFIRMED) ... Everyone loves a good narrative, don't they? Nothing better and more common than the revenge team narrative. Bernier spent last year as the backup in Anaheim and will be starting tonight for Colorado at home. He should see a ton of shots an has the ability to steal the game from his former team. I am going to pair Bernier with the Capitals in a lineup that fades the Ducks chalk. He is the hedge stack goalie of the night.
LINE LOCK OF THE NIGHT
Oversight for leaving this off the main edit .... Tonights line lock is ...........................................
Ottawa Senators Power Play ... Kyle Turris / Mike Hoffman / Dion Phaneuf
MAN vs OPTO Challenge
The FullTime DFS Optimizer is really liking the Colorado Defenseman today (Tyson Barrie and Erik Johnson). I strongly advise against using two defenseman from the same team typically, but tonight I'm willing to place my bet on the Calgary duo of Dougie Hamilton and Mark Giordano outperforming Tyson Barrie and Erik Johnson despite being more expensive.
So for the challenge of the night. Give me Dougie Hamilton out scoring Tyson Barrie tonight.
