NBA Best Bets: Mavericks Have Been Strong on the Road

Let's get this week rolling with an interesting six-game slate of NBA action. While everyone is going to the window to bet the Seahawks and Niners, let’s run it up in the NBA. The Clippers and Kawhi Leonard host Leonard's championship brothers in the Raptors. Blake Griffin will make his 2019 debut tonight, The Rockets and Pelicans play in a game with an insane total and the Celtics put their seven-game winning streak on the line vs. the Mavericks. I have a pair of best bets plus a few player prop bet leans.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Detroit Pistons: Under 222.5 Points

Griffin is expected to make his 2019 debut Monday night at home vs. the Timberwolves. The Pistons are 4-6 in their first 10 games and have been unimpressive for the most part. I'm not sure Griffin will make them that much better, but he is a consistent source of offense. The Timberwolves are on the second night of a home-road back-to-back, these are generally tough spots for the road team. I really don't have a lean on a side in this one, but I'm gonna get behind some sharp action that hit the total in this contest. The total opened up at 224.5 and was bet all the way down to 220.5. The betting public is on the over in this game and we saw some buyback pushing the number up to 222.5, where it currently sits. If I am betting an under, the goal is to get it at its highest point. I am willing to risk it here at under 222.5. The return of Griffin may create energy in the building, but rust and a lack of chemistry could throw the offense off. Also, let's not forget the Timberwolves were just in a hard-fought game 24 hours ago.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Boston Celtics: Mavericks +3.5

The Mavericks look like they can be a contender in a loaded Western Conference. They are 6-3 on the season with two of those losses coming to the Lakers and the Trail Blazers. What's most impressive about the Mavericks’ start is that they have played much better on the road as compared to last season. The Mavericks haven't lost a road game yet in this campaign, and tonight's test is against the Celtics, who are on a seven-game winning streak. This game opened up with Boston as a 3.5-point favorite. The Celtics playing in a nationally televised game with a high bet handle is always a fade the public spot for me. Gordon Hayward being out indefinitely with a fractured hand could also hurt Boston. I like the Mavericks to cover and would drip on the moneyline.

Season Record: 12-14
