According to Golf Digest, the 2020 Open Championship scheduled for Royal St. George's in July will be cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. This is the first time The Open has been canceled since World War II. A number of tournaments have been stopped due to concerns of COVID-19. On Wednesday the Wimbledon tennis tournament was also cancelled while The PGA Tour canceled or postponed tournaments that were scheduled to take place in late May. Per Golf Digest, it is not expected that The Open will occur at Royal St. George next year. As for the U.S. Open, a decision as to whether or not the event will still take place is to be decided by the middle of April.
