CASTAIC, Calif. (AP) Andrew Gemmell and Becca Mann have won the 10-kilometer titles at the U.S. open water national championships and earned berths at the Pan Pacific Championships in Australia this summer.
Gemmell won the men's race at Castaic Lake near Los Angeles on Friday in 1 hour, 50 minutes and 45.93 seconds. The 23-year-old swimmer from Wilmington, Delaware, took his first and only lead late in the race.
Jordan Wilimovsky of Malibu, California, finished second in 1:59:49.36. Alex Meyer of Ithaca, New York, and Sean Ryan of Chattanooga, Tennessee, tied for third with a time of 1:51.30.28
Mann stayed within striking distance of the leaders before making her move on the final two laps to win in 1:59:13.95. The 16-year-old swimmer from Homer Glen, Illinois, earned her first national title.
