PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) Vaughn Taylor closed with a 7-under 65 on Sunday and won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am when Phil Mickelson missed a short birdie putt on the 18th hole.

It was a stunning conclusion for both.

Taylor hasn't won in more than a decade. He hasn't had a full PGA Tour card since 2012 and just returned from South America on the Web.com Tour. Now the longtime resident of Augusta, Georgia, gets into the Masters for the first time since 2008.

Mickelson, going for his record-tying fifth victory at Pebble Beach, had a two-shot lead going into the final round. He made a 12-foot birdie on the 17th and was poised for a simple up-and-down for birdie on the par-5 18th to force a playoff. His 5-foot birdie caught the lip.
