Lt. Col. Dan Rooney, known for being the F-16 fighter pilot and PGA professional who created the Folds of Honor to provide scholarships to families of America’s fallen and disabled service members, had a vision for a Michigan golf course that his parents owned.

Rooney wanted to create a golf club that honored Veterans, so, with the help of Jack Nicklaus, American Dunes Golf Club opened in summer 2021. Located in Grand Haven, Mich., within sight of Lake Michigan, American Dunes eloquently blends golf with patriotism as there are constant reminders to those who have served.

Nicklaus opened up the par-72, 7,213-yard course and strengthened it through the use of natural topography and native sand dunes. The course stands on its own merits, but what makes this such a special play is its tribute to America's soldiers.
