The PGA Tour continues its West Coast Swing this week at the Farmers Insurance Open as famed Torrey Pines steps into the spotlight for the first of two occasions this season. Don't expect the same test this week for the U.S. Open, which will be played in June at the San Diego muni. Torrey Pines' South Course also was the site of that memorable Tiger Woods victory in the 2008 Open.
Speaking of things that will look different, the CBS golf broadcast is set to unveil a number of changes for viewers. Next week in Phoenix, NBC has a handful of TV tweaks in store, as well.
Tony Finau continued his consistent ways last week in The American Express, finishing fourth but falling short of a trophy yet again. His remarkable non-winning streak since his lone PGA Tour victory in 2016 has gone from a quirky stat to something that follows him weekly.
Finally, if there's such a thing as sneaking into the top 5 of the Official World Golf Ranking, that is exactly what Tyrrell Hatton has done. His victory last week at the European Tour's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship marks his fourth victory in the past 15 months.
It's all in this week's episode as we close out the first month of the new year.
