The 38-member roster for the Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic has been announced, and once again most of the top rising seniors in the country will participate in the premiere event on the prep baseball calendar.
California (eight) and Florida (seven) will be the states best represented at this year's contest, which will be held August 11 at San Diego State's Tony Gwynn Stadium and broadcast nationally on FSN.
Leading the California contingent are outfielders Aaron Hicks of Wilson (Long Beach, Calif.) and Isaac Galloway of Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), arguably the nation's top two prospects from the Class of 2008. Florida will be led by first baseman Eric Hosmer of American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) and left-handed pitcher Anthony Ferrara of Riverview (Fla.).
Georgia will boast three top-10 caliber players at the game, led by right-hander Michael Palazzone of Lassiter (Marietta, Ga.). The left side of the East's infield will likely feature two more Georgia studs in third baseman Ethan Martin of Stephens County (Toccoa, Ga.) and shortstop Tim Beckham of Griffin (Griffin, Ga.).
Outfielder Robbie Grossman of Cy-Fair (Cypress, Texas) and lefty Walker Kelly of Arlington Heights (Fort Worth, Texas) lead a group of five Texans on the West roster. Other notable selections include Tim Melville of Holt (Wentzville, Mo.) and Daniel Marrs of James River (Midlothian, Va.).
The East team will be coached by Mike Sheppard Jr., head coach of 2007 RISE/SI.com National Champion Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, N.J.). The West squad will be led by veteran San Diego-area coach Manny Hermosillo of Montgomery (Calif.).
