Photos: Valley Vista defeats Perry 68-48 to win Arizona 6A girls basketball championship
PHOENIX - With four players scoring in double figures, top-seeded Valley Vista cruised to a 68-48 victory over Perry on Wednesday night in the AIA Class 6A girls basketball championship game at Arizona Veteran's Memorial Coliseum.
The Monsoon (25-5) outscored Perry 17-9 in the opening quarter and never looked back.
It marked the third consecutive 6A state championship for Valley Vista and its fifth in the last six seasons.
Mikela Cooper led the Monsoon with 13 points while Jennah Isai and Hannah Young had 12 points each. Jocelyn Chavez connected on three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points. Isai added a game-high 14 rebounds - 11 of those coming on the defensive end.
Khamil Pierre had a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds for Perry (22-10).
