SBLIVE POWER 10 BOYS BASKETBALL RANKINGS
Feb. 8, 2021
1. Clinton (15-1)
Last week: No. 1
Clinton has been the top-ranked team in the state since early January, and a 60-57 loss to then-No. 10 Vicksburg isn’t enough to change that. The Arrow faithful would much rather have suffered the first loss now rather than in the region tournament or playoffs.
2. Callaway (7-0)
Last week: No. 2
Chargers’ coach David Sanders has a clear goal: keep the Chargers healthy for a post-season run. That helps explain why Callaway has only played one game in the last two weeks.
3. Forest Hill (17-1)
Last week: No. 3
The Patriots got a tough test in their final regular-season game last week, but picked up the 58-54 win over Yazoo City in double-overtime. They open their region tournament Tuesday against Wingfield.
4. Pontotoc (23-3)
Last week: No. 4
The Warriors breezed through their final two tuneup games for post-season play last week, beating Lafayette 67-43 on the road and Saltillo 68-51 at home.
5. Starkville (17-2)
Last week: No. 5
The Yellowjackets were off last week after closing their regular-season slate by winning eight of their last nine.
6. Oak Grove (14-2)
Last week: No. 6
The Warriors clinched the top seed in Region 5-6A with a 60-39 win over Petal last Tuesday night and ran their winning streak to three games.
7. Vicksburg (13-6)
Last week: No. 10
Vicksburg has been a borderline Top 10 team all season because they made up for what they lacked in marquee wins with hardly any bad losses. They finally got the signature win they were looking for Tuesday night, when they knocked off No. 1 Clinton 60-57 in overtime.
8. Biloxi (14-2)
Last week: No. 7
The Indians edged D’Iberville 51-50 to secure the top seed coming out of Region 7-6A, but lost to Brandon 69-66 in overtime in their regular-season finale.
9. Raymond (18-5)
Last week: No. 8
The Rangers’ once-inevitable deep post-season run is in question after they had to forfeit a couple of district games to McComb and Lanier last week. Raymond is clearly one of the 10 best teams in the state, but you can’t win if you can’t compete.
10. Florence (17-0)
Last week: No. 9
Florence had two games canceled last week because the team was in quarantine, but they remain undefeated and held on to the top spot in the region 5-4A. The Eagles’ first game in the region tournament is Friday night against Mendenhall.
