Watch: Breya Cunningham leads La Jolla Country Day past Mater Dei in opening round of state playoffs

LA JOLLA, Calif. -- La Jolla Country Day junior Breya Cunningham set the tone on Tuesday night, scoring eight of her game high 20 points in the first quarter to help the Torreys overcome a late comeback by the Monarchs, to win 53-45.

Mater Dei worked their way back into the  game during the fourth quarter, briefly tying the score at 43 with just over three minutes to play before La Jolla Country Day regained their composure and went on a 10-2 run to close out the game.

La Jolla Country Day advances to the second round of the CIF State Open Division playoffs and will host third-seeded Sierra Canyon on Saturday night.
