Gardena Serra football forfeits Mission League win over Notre Dame due to fielding ineligible player
The Cavaliers fall to 3-3 with the loss.
Gardena Serra has forfeited last week's 13-7 Mission League win over Notre Dame due to fielding an ineligible player, Serra head coach Scott Altenberg confirmed to SBLive.
The error was a miscommunication, according to Altenberg, who called it a "stupid mistake." The Serra player hadn't been fully cleared by the CIF Southern Section ahead of the game.
With the forfeit, Serra drops to 3-3 on the season and 0-1 in the Mission League. Notre Dame improves to 3-3 and 1-0 in the Mission League. Serra continues Mission League play this week at home against Bishop Amat. Notre Dame takes on Chaminade on the road.
