SBLive's Central Section girls basketball rankings: No. 1 Clovis West, No. 2 Clovis rematch 10 days away

Clovis moves off the top spot after loss to Christian Brothers; Clovis West rebounds with 57-point win

Yes, we know that Clovis defeated Clovis West last Tuesday 52-51, snapping a 33 league game winning streak and suffering their first home loss since 2017. However, we are moving the Golden Eagles back to No. 1 based on their entire body of work and the Cougars 53-45 loss to Christian Brothers over the weekend.

But don’t worry, they’ll hash it out on Feb. 10, when they meet at Clovis with the Tri-River Athletic Conference on the line. Also at steak: Clovis West’s 17 year league winning streak.

Smooth sailing is the forecast as St. Joseph and San Joaquin Memorial continue their winning ways, going a combined 6-0 last week.

With five of the six schools from the Tri-River Athletic Conference in the section’s top 10 there’s bound to be an upset and two. And Clovis East defeated Buchanan 59-51 behind Nikki Ramos’ 15 points, thus dropping the Bears to No. 5.

And how about those fighting Lady Blue Raiders from Caruthers? Well, our 7th ranked team just won their 98th straight league game (84-10 over Parlier), a new Central Section record.
