Top 10 California high school football LA City Section final regular-season rankings (10/30/22)
The postseason is upon us. Here are the final City Section high school football rankings for the 2023 regular season.
(Rank: school, W-L record, comment)
1. Birmingham (8-2)
The Patriots finish the season with an 83-6 win over Taft - no that's not a typo. Birmingham will head into the postseason looking for their fourth straight Open Division title.
2. Garfield (9-1)
The Eastern League champs are gearing up for another Open Division finals appearance.
3. Gardena (9-1)
The surprise of the year in the City. Gardena's only loss this season was to Banning, 27-26. But its key wins over Carson, San Pedro and Narbonne gave it the right to be called Marine League champions.
4. Carson (9-1)
The Colts' only loss this season was to Gardena in Week 9. The late loss dropped them to No. 4 in the rankings, but their hopes at a City title run are still alive with standout Jerry Misaalefua.
5. Granada Hills (7-2-1)
The Highlanders, led by Darrell Stanley, finish the season on a four-game winning streak with just one loss in the City to big, bad Birmingham. Granada Hills is in the Open Division playoffs for the first time in program history.

6. Palisades (8-2)
The Dolphins go unbeaten in the Western League and finish the year on a four-game winning streak under first-year coach Dylen Smith.
7. San Pedro (5-4)
The Pirates were on the cusp of the Open Division and Division 1 playoffs, but its 42-20 win over Banning in Week 9 put them in the Open. San Pedro didn't play a Week 10 game due to cancelation from opponent, so they'll have to wait two weeks before playing another game.
8. Narbonne (4-6)
The Gauchos earn a spot in the Open Division playoffs thanks to a win over Banning earlier in the year, 22-21.
9. Banning (4-6)
Banning earned the No. 1 seed in the Division I playoffs.
10. Franklin (7-2-1)
The Panthers win the Northern League, going 5-0, but their schedule wasn't quite strong enough to get them into the Open Division. Instead, Franklin will be the No. 2 seed in Division I.
