Top 10 San Diego Section boys basketball rankings (12/18/2023)

No. 1 Carlsbad and No. 2 Montgomery will play on Saturday in the final game of the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic tipoff night.

Here's an updated look at the San Diego Section rankings as the Holiday tournaments get underway across the section.

1. Carlsbad (6-1)

Next game: 12/18 vs. Las Vegas-Silverado (at Tarkanian Classic)

Last week: 1

Carlsbad opens the first of four games at the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas on Monday. Their showdown against No. 2 Montgomery awaits on Saturday at tipoff night of the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic.

2. Montgomery (9-0)

Next game: 12/20 vs. South Granville, North Carolina (at San Diego Sweetwater Tournament)

Last week: 2

Montgomery picked up their seventh win by 20 points on more on Saturday, cruising past Oak Park, 73-47. They'll take on top-ranked Carlsbad in the final game of Saturday's Torrey Pines Holiday Classic tipoff night.

3. St. Augustine (8-1)

Next game: 12/19 vs. Las Vegas-Arbor View (at Tarkanian Classic)

Last week: 3

The Saints blew past Victory Christian 88-45 in their lone game last week. They opened their week with a 52-41 win over Mater Lakes Academy (Florida) on Monday morning at the Tarkanian Classic.

4. Torrey Pines (8-2)

Next game: 12/19 at Canyon Crest

Last week: 4

Torrey Pines won both cross-league games last week, taking down Poway and Del Norte. They'll take on No. 6 Mission Bay in the middle game of the Holiday Classic tipoff night.

5. La Jolla Country Day (7-3)

Next game: 12/18 vs. Maranatha Christian

Last week: 6

La Jolla Country Day edged out El Camino last week, beating the Wildcats 49-41. They'll play Maranatha Christian and Cathedral Catholic this week before playing in the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic next week.

6. Mission Bay (8-3)

Next game: 12/23 at Torrey Pines (Holiday Classic tipoff night)

Last week: 7

Mission Bay stretched their winning streak to six games with home wins over Helix and Mt. Carmel last week.

7. Cathedral Catholic (8-3)

Next game: 12/22 vs. La Jolla Country Day

Last week: 5

The Dons were upset in double overtime at Mt. Carmel on Wednesday, falling 104-100. They'll be back on the court against No. 5 La Jolla Country Day on Friday.

8. Santa Fe Christian (4-4)

Next game: 12/19 at Eastlake

Last week: 8

The Eagles took down Vista at home in their lone game last week. They'll head south to Eastlake on Tuesday before playing El Camino in the opener of Saturday's Torrey Pines Holiday Classic tipoff night.

9. San Marcos (11-2)

Next game: 12/27 vs. Hawaii-Kamehameha (at Hawaii Invitational Tournament)

Last week: NR

The Knights were dominant on their way to winning the North County Classic. They beat Oceanside, San Dieguito, Orange Glen and Sage Creek by a combined 135 points.

10. Rancho Buena Vista (7-3)

Next game: 12/16 vs. Oak Park (at Oxnard Pacifica)

Last week: NR

The Longhorns have won three straight games by double digits, heading into Friday's game at Poway. Sophomore point guard CJ Aldrich has scored 21 points or more in five of six games.
