Pope won its fifth state title in program history Thursday night at Truist Park, and none looked easier than this one.
The Greyhounds cruised to a 10-0, six-inning win in Game 1 and followed that up with a 9-2 win in Game 2 to win the Class 6A state championship.
Pope put on a hitting clinic up and down the lineup.
In the two games combined, Cooper Orr went 4-for-5, Dawson Campbell went 4-for-7 with two RBIs, Kent Schmidt was 3-for-7 with a double and two triples, and Carson Kerce had two triples, a double, a single and three RBIs.
Campbell pitched a six-inning shutout in Game 1, and Jack Butler earned the win in Game 2.
Jackson McElvy drove in both runs in Game 2 for Allatoona and went 3-for-6 combined.
The Cobb County rivals had split the season series in two close games.
Pope made this series no doubt, completing a 10-0 run through the playoffs, sweeping through Dacula, Effingham County, Evans, Buford and finally Allatoona to hoist the trophy.
Seven more Georgia state champions will be decided at multiple venues today through Wednesday.
