Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Iowa high school athlete of the week for Feb. 20-26. Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m. If you would like to make a nomination in a future week, email nate@scorebooklive.com.

Kadence Hyde, Waterloo East girls bowling

The senior won her fourth straight girls’ Class 2A Iowa state individual bowling championship at her hometown Maple Lanes in Waterloo.

Vicki Andrews, Des Moines Lincoln girls bowling

The sophomore won the Class 3A Iowa state individual high school girls bowling title at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.

Jackson Satterlee, Cedar Falls boys bowling

Satterlee won the Class 3A Iowa state individual highs school boys bowling title at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.

Trey VanWyk, Oskaloosa boys bowling

 The sophomore won the Class 2A Iowa state individual bowling title in Waterloo. He went into the eight-bowler head-to-head tournament as the No. 3 seed. He took down Ethan Potter of Western Dubuque and Grady Brauer of Decorah before taking down top-seeded Caleb Hodtwalker of Lewis Central in the championship round, 248-230.

Adam Dennny, Council Bluff Saint Albert’s boys bowling

The senior sailed to an individual Class 1A  Iowa state bowling championship, his second straight title. He bowled a 769 three-game series to score the top seed in the knockout bracket tournament at Maple Lanes in Waterloo, where he went on to beat Ashton Giza of Clarke and teammate Cole Pekny in the finals.

Kali Johnson, Forest City girls bowling

The senior cruised to and individual Class 1A state championship. She was the top individual scorer after the three-game series, where she scored a 636, topping Saint Albert freshman Bailey Secrest by five pins.

Ellie Muller, West Des Moines Dowling girls basketball

Muller, a freshman, had a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Maroons past Iowa City West 59-37 in a Class 5A regional final. The 6-1 Muller made all nine of her shots and blocked eight West attempts.

Alyssa Bartlett, Southeast Polk girls basketball

The sophomore had a strong all-around performance in the Rams’ 71-46 5A regional final triumph over Iowa City Liberty. Bartlett finished with 16 points, nine rebounds (seven offensive) and five assists.

Emma Miner, Dallas Center-Grimes

DC-G secured the No. 1 seed in the 4A state tournament with a 65-36 regional final win over Humboldt. Miner, a senior, contributed 17 points, seven steals, five assists and four rebounds.

Haley Gossman, Decorah girsl basketball

Seniors Gossman and Bryar Duwe each had double-doubles in the Vikings’ 67-61 win over Mason City in a Class 4A regional final. Gossman finished with 21 points and a whopping 18 rebounds, while Duwe had 20 points and 14 caroms.

Kyla Mason, Cedar Rapids Xavier girls basketball

Xavier gets a chance to defend its 4A state title after downing Western Dubuque 54-46 in regional final. Mason, a senior, scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Sophomore Libby Fandel added 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Ava Locklear, Clear Creek-Amana girls basketball

The junior recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Clippers punched their ticket to the state tournament with a 61-46 4A regional final win over North Scott.

Jenna Hopp, Glenwood girls basketball

Hopp, who will play at South Dakota State, had a spectacular performance in a 65-45 win over Pella in a 4A regional final. She finished with 30 points, 18 rebounds, seven assists, five blocked shots and three steals.

Abby Hall, Des Moines Christian girls basketball

Hall tossed in 23 points in the Lions’ 64-38 3A regional final win over Harlan. The junior hit 8 of 11 shots, including three 3-pointers.

Maryn Bixby, Dike-New Hartford girls basketball

The two-time defending state champs are seeded No. 1 in Class 2A after a 67-28 regional final conquest of Bellevue. Bixby, a junior, hit six 3-point shots and led the Wolverines with 20 points.

Whitney Klyn, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont girls basketball

The senior had 19 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots as the unbeaten Rockets reached the state tournament with a 71-65 regional final win over Hudson.

Tyme Boettcher, Panorama girls basketball

The junior had 12 points and 16 rebounds as the Panthers clipped Treynor 39-38 in a 2A regional final. Boettcher scored the winning bucket with 38 seconds remaining.

Ellen Waller, Aplington-Parkersburg girls basketball

Waller, a senior, scored 22 points to lead the Falcons past Dyersvlle Beckman 50-38 in a 2A regional final. A-P plays defending champ Dike-New Hartford in the state tournament.

Madison Brouwer, Sibley-Ocheyedan girls basketball

The senior scored 32 points and snared 12 rebounds, helping the Generals beat Sioux Central 76-57 in a 2A regional final. Brouwer was 12-for-15 from the field and 8 of 13 from the charity stripe.

Melina Oepping, Winfield-Mt. Union girls baskeball

The senior charted 24 points and eight rebounds as the Wolves turned back North Mashaka 52-47 in a 1A regional final. It’s the first state tournament berth for Winfield-Mt. Union since 1998.

Charlie Pryor, Woodbine boys basketball

Pryor, a sophomore, converted 13 of 14 free throws and tallied 19 points in the Tigers’ 59-42 win over Westwood in a 1A regional final. Woodbine avenged a loss to Westwood in a regular season finale and qualified for its first state tournament since 1974.

Cooper Randall, Waukee boys basketball

The senior nailed five 3-pointers and scored 22 points for the Warriors in a 77-62 win over Des Moines Lincoln in a regular season finale. Randall also had five rebounds.

Trevin Jirak, West Des Moines Valley boys basketball

The sophomore recorded a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds as the Tigers edged Des Moines Roosevelt 60-59 in a regular season finale.

Brayden Drea, Indianola boys basketball

The senior had 24 points and nine rebounds for the Indians, who ended the regular season with a 94-64 victory over Des Moines East. Drea hit five 3-point shots.

Josh Sanderson, Grand View Christian boys basketball

Sanderson poured in 43 points – splashing eight of his team’s 12 3-pointers – and the Class 1A top-ranked Thunder rolled past Lenox 94-47 in a district final. Grand View Christian is unbeaten in 23 games heading into a substate final.

Preston Dobbs, Sioux City East boys basketball

The Black Raiders drubbed Storm Lake 89-37 in a regular season finale. Dobbs finished with 20 points (10 of 14 shooting), eight rebounds and four assists.

Cole Plowman, Newton boys basketball

The senior had 20 points and eight rebounds, helping the Cardinals down Oskaloosa 70-56 in a Class 3A district opener. Plowman also had five blocked shots.

Mathok Mathok, Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln boys basketball

The Lynx won 9 of their last 11 regular season games, ending with a 69-67 overtime triumph over Grand Island (Neb.) Mathok finished with 29 points and eight rebounds.

Keaton Bonderson, Le Mars Gehlen Catholic boys basketball

Bonderson, who will play football at Wayne State College, exploded for 40 points in a 79-77 Class 1A district final win over Newell-Fonda. Bonderson, already the school’s all-time leading scorer, set the single-season scoring record that had stood since 1961-62.

William Kiburis, Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys basketball

The senior had 33 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Rebels in a 77-57 Class 1A district final win over Keota. Gladbrook-Reinbeck plays Lynnville-Sully for a trip to the state tournament.
