CBC (13-5) used a 12-0 fourth-quarter run to take a come-from-behind 60-54 win against East St. Louis (Ill.) on Saturday afternoon. The game marked the first CBC home contest this season with the number of tournaments and showcases the Cadets have played in. The loss snapped a five-game Flyers winning streak.
CBC senior guard Larry Hughes Jr. sparked the comeback by scoring 14 of his game-high 23 points in a five-minute span from the end of the third quarter into the fourth.
Hughes scored on a breakaway dunk with just over five minutes to go to give CBC a 47-45 lead, its first advantage since the opening minute. CBC never trailed the Flyers again.
CBC senior guard Robert Martin chipped in 21 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals. Sophomore center John Bol finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.
East St. Louis junior forward Macaleab Rich led the Flyers with 17 points, 15 rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Rich also wowed the crowd with four dunks, including one over the 7-foot-2 Bol.
Flyers senior guard Christian Jones, a University of Missouri signee, scored 13 points and totaled five rebounds and six assists with three steals. However, CBC bottled him up in the fourth quarter, only allowing him to score five points in the final period.
