Top Arizona boys basketball stars, Feb. 8-14
Chuck Bailey, Higley
It was an explosive week for the sophomore. On Tuesday, he had 26 points, four rebounds and a steal in a 69-59 win over Eastmark. Wednesday he had 28 points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists in a 72-60 victory against Williams Field, and Thursday he absolutely exploded for 41 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block in a 72-60 win over Dysart.
Jaxton Bobik, Queen Creek
The senior helped the Bulldogs secure their first win of the season Wednesday against Pinnacle, recording 30 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Devin Bradford, Vista Grande
The senior had an explosive game Tuesday, notching a double-double with 27 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and a block to help lift Vista Grande to a 60-59 victory over Poston Butte.
Nate Calmese, Mesquite
The junior dropped 32 points and had three steals to help the Wildcats earn a 74-56 win over Shadow Mountain on Wednesday.
Colin Carey, Sunrise Mountain
Despite the Mustangs’ 88-77 loss to Liberty on Wednesday, the senior notched a double-double with 34 points and 15 rebounds.
Amari Carraway, Pueblo
Thursday’s 77-61 win over Vista Grande was the sophomore’s best game of the season to date, with 31 points, five assists, three steals and three rebounds.
Jake Clapper, Desert Edge
The senior led the team in scoring with 23 points and secured a double-double with 11 rebounds, helping Desert Edge defeat Notre Dame Prep 71-54 on Tuesday.
Cougar Cooke, Show Low
The junior had 25 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in Tuesday’s 64-56 loss to Holbrook.
Moses Demalek, Paradise Valley
Securing a double-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals, the senior helped lift Paradise Valley to a 60-54 victory over Desert Mountain on Tuesday.
Cameron Gates, Tonopah
In his best performance of the season thus far, the senior posted a double-double with 29 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 67-55 loss to Yuma Catholic on Tuesday.
Cohen Gonzales, Mesquite
Gonzales’ stats are climbing as the season continues, most notably with his performance against Combs on Thursday. The sophomore had a season-best 31 points, six rebounds, five steals and an assist in a 70-53 victory.
Jimari Grayson, Mesa
The senior had his best game of the season against Mesa Mountain View on Tuesday, notching a double-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in a 65-59 win.
Jesse Gray, Poston Butte
In a heartbreaking 60-59 loss to Vista Grande on Tuesday, the junior posted 32 points, five steals and two assists.
Bradey Henige, Cactus
In the best performance of his high school career to date, the freshman had a double-double with 23 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks and an assist to help lift the Cobras to a 61-59 win over Peoria on Tuesday.
Will Hunt, Yuma Catholic
The senior had 23 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists in a 67-55 victory over Tonopah on Tuesday.
Kyree Jackson, ALA-Ironwood
The senior had a big game Wednesday against Combs, securing a double-double with 32 points and 10 rebounds to help lift the Warriors to a 71-66 win.
Carson Kelly, Chandler
It was a monster week for Kelly in the Wolves’ return to action following their quarantine. On Monday, the senior had 38 points, eight assists, four rebounds and two steals in a 68-62 loss to Perry. On Friday, he had a double-double with 32 points, 11 assists, three rebounds and three steals in a 95-92 loss to Desert Ridge.
Steven Legleu, Nogales
It was another great week for Legleu as Southern Arizona basketball was in its second full week of action. The senior opened the week with 24 points, four rebounds, four steals, four blocks and two assists in Monday’s 67-58 win over Tucson before dropping 22 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal Tuesday in a 75-49 victory against Walden Grove. He closed things Friday with 20 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists in a 77-71 win over Sunnyside.
Grady Lewis, Sunnyslope
The senior had a double-double in Monday’s 58-53 win over Apollo with 19 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal.
Daryian Matthews, Dysart
Despite the Demons’ 72-60 loss to Higley on Wednesday, Matthews, a senior, posted 30 points, 18 rebounds, four blocks and two assists.
Mason Miller, Walden Grove
In his best performance of the season to date, the senior had 20 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 75-49 loss to Nogales on Tuesday.
Ahamed Mohamed, Apollo
The junior had a double-double in Apollo’s 55-50 loss to Cactus Shadows on Wednesday with 24 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.
Preston Olney, Coconino
It was only his team’s second week of action, but Olney already has found his groove and jumped out as the team leader. On Monday, the senior posted 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 56-34 victory over rival Flagstaff. On Friday, the two teams met again, and Olney had 21 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 67-37 win.
Jason Parent, Prescott
In Friday’s 61-48 victory over Cactus, the junior had a double-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and three blocks.
Dylan Pendleton, Coronado
Pendleton, a senior, helped lift Coronado to a 64-44 victory over Youngker on Friday. He nearly had a triple-double with 26 points, 11 rebounds, nine steals and six assists.
Jaron Perkins Jr, Cortez
The senior helped lift the Colts to a 67-46 win over Glendale on Wednesday, notching a double-double with 26 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Brady Ramon, Salpointe Catholic
In Thursday’s 70-42 rout of Ironwood Ridge, the senior had 20 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Chino Salas-Zorrilla, Camp Verde
In a 74-67 loss to Page on Tuesday, the senior led the team in scoring with 25 points and added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Stuart Sandall, Page
In his best game of the season so far, the senior had 30 points, seven blocks, six rebounds, three assists and a steal in Tuesday’s 74-67 win over Camp Verde.
Jake Sant, Verrado
Sant, a junior, posted 27 points, six rebounds and four assists Friday to help lift Verrado to a 62-56 win over Glendale.
Ernesto Scroggins, McClintock
The sophomore led McClintock in scoring Thursday in a 71-49 rout of Verrado with 23 points. He had four rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block.
Caleb Simpson, Saguaro
The player of the game in Wednesday’s 70-65 victory over Poston Butte, the senior had 29 points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Jordan Stevens, Gila Ridge
In Gila Ridge’s 74-61 loss to Apollo on Tuesday, the senior nearly had a double-double with 20 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Nathan Summit, Bradshaw Mountain
The senior had his best game of the season Thursday, posting a double-double with 22 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Pike Tancil, Willow Canyon
In Friday’s 87-50 victory over Kellis, the junior had 20 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals.
Pascal Volz, McClintock
The junior led the team in scoring against Tempe on Wednesday with 21 points. He added five rebounds, four assists and two steals to help lift the Chargers to a 61-49 win.
Nehemiah Washington, Marcos de Niza
The senior helped power the Padres to a 64-56 win over Combs on Saturday with 20 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Roosevelt “Tru” Washington, Mountain Pointe
The sophomore had a monster game Thursday in a 101-55 victory over Cibola, tallying 40 points, seven rebounds, seven steals and four assists.
