How SBLive Oklahoma's Top 25 fared: Shakeup in Top 5 with two teams defeated

Top two teams Bixby and Tulsa Union remain perfect; No. 5 Mustang might be climbing

Here is how the SBLive Oklahoma Top 25 high school football teams fared this week:

1. Bixby (6-0) beat Enid, 77-14 

The Spartans made it 55 straight wins after cruising on the road against the Plainsmen. Bixby led 21-0 in the first quarter without a single play on offense. Then the first time it touched the ball, it scored a passing touchdown in one play.

2. Tulsa Union (6-0) beat Norman, 42-28

Tailback DJ McKinney scored four TDs to help the Redhawks to a road win in a Thursday night battle against a pesky Norman squad. Union also overcame a struggling performance.

3. Edmond Deer Creek (5-1) lost to Choctaw, 28-16

The Antlers dropped their first game of the season in a Top 10 matchup. Deer Creek fell behind 14-0 early to the Yellowjackets and could never recover. 

4. McAlester (5-1) lost to Coweta, 49-0

Not only did the Buffaloes suffer their first loss of 2022, but they were shut out in a blowout by Coweta in another Top 10 battle on Thursday night. 

5. Mustang (5-1) beat Edmond Santa Fe, 37-17

Relying on the run, Mustang totaled 288 yards on 41 carries in a convincing win against the Wolves. Jay Bedford led the Broncos’ rushing attack with 109 yards on 14 carries. Mustang also forced four turnovers.

6. OKC Bishop McGuinness (6-0) beat Guthrie, 30-27

The Fighting Irish had to kick a late field goal for the win to stay unbeaten.

7. Jenks (3-2) lost to Norman North, 31-21

Jaiden Carroll scored a TD run of 41 yards and Jordan Schelling scored TDs on runs of 7 and 35, but the Trojans could not stop the passing of Kamden Sixkiller, who threw for 324 yards on 21-of-31 attempts, while rushing for 64 yards and one TD.

8. Coweta (6-0) beat McAlester, 49-0

The Tigers stunned the previously unbeaten Buffaloes in a Top 10 matchup on Thursday night as its defense limited McAlester. Quarterback Na’Kylan Starks and running back Mason Ford were among the key payers of the game.

9. Choctaw (5-1) beat Edmond Deer Creek, 28-16

The Yellowjackets got the best of the higher-ranked Antlers, building a 22-3 lead in the third quarter.

10. Cushing (6-0) beat Wagoner, 42-0

The Tigers remained unbeaten as it steamrolled the Bulldogs in a highly-anticipated Class 4A matchup. Blaze Berlowitz completed 23-of-33 passes for 401 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

11. Stillwater (6-0) beat Sand Springs, 58-7

Gage Gundy threw the first two TDs for his team, including a quick screen on the first, to Heston Thompson. Gundy would finish with 21-of-31 passing for 309 yards and five total touchdowns. Stillwater held the Sandites to 24 yards of offense.

12. Del City (5-1) beat Sapulpa, 56-7

Homecoming took place for the Eagles and they certainly did not disappoint as they inflicted a 49-point rout in their win against Sapulpa.

13. Collinsville (6-0) beat Tulsa Hale, 63-6

There was no problem for the Cardinals as they dispensed with Tulsa Hale, keeping their record unblemished.

14. Rejoice Christian (6-0) beat Adair, 58-14

Rejoice kept its hopes for an unbeaten season and a state championship alive with a dominant performance against Adair.

15. Lincoln Christian (5-1) beat Checotah, 63-0

After a week off, the Bulldogs had no problem getting back in action as they rolled to a shutout victory against the Wildcats.

16. Guthrie (5-1) lost to OKC Bishop McGuinness, 30-27

The Blue Jays were dealt their first defeat as they gave up a late field goal to McGuinness. Guthrie had just scored a game-tying TD before the Irish kicked the game-winner.

17. Muskogee (6-0) beat U.S.Grant, 66-0

The Roughers remained unbeaten with a dominating performance against U.S. Grant. Muskogee rolled having scored 45 of its 66 points in the opening quarter. It led 52-0 at halftime.

18. Owasso (2-4) beat Edmond North, 30-16

The Rams produced 409 yards of offense and outscored the Huskies 20-6 in the second half, limiting them to two field goals, picking up their second win of the year.

19. Washington (6-0) beat Crooked Oak, 39-0

Staying on a path to the Class 2A championship, Washington rocked Crooked Oak in a shutout victory.

20. Tuttle (4-2) lost to Blanchard, 30-28

The Tiger defense just needed one more play to hold on for the victory. But they were unsuccessful as the Lions passed for a walk-off TD into the end zone as time expired.

21. Tulsa Metro Christian (6-0) beat McLoud, 35-0

Metro was victorious as it shut out of McLoud. It surged to 21-0 lead at halftime.

22. Gore (6-0) beat Pocola, 61-12

The Pirates shot out to a 14-0 lead, which catapulted them to their 49-point win against Pocola on the road.

23. Elgin (6-0) beat Altus, 34-0

The Owls stayed unbeaten in District 5A-1 as they rolled over the Bulldogs in the southwest part of the state.

24. Verdigris (5-1) lost to Bristow, 15-14

The top team in Class 3A was upset by one point. The Cardinals originally were going to attempt a 34-yard field goal with 48 seconds left, but then decided go for it on fourth down. However, a pass fell incomplete.

25. Ringling (6-0) beat Healdton, 50-0

The Southwestern Oklahoma tradition-rich powerhouse rocked one of its tri-city arch-rivals, hoping to keep pace with its dream of another state title.
