Miami (Fla.) may be the team to beat for Jaden Rashada, but Oregon will host the five-star prospect for its spring game

Every year there’s a domino effect to quarterback recruiting across the college football landscape.

As a top quarterback commits, programs scramble to pursue the “next man up.”

So far the nation’s top quarterback, Arch Manning, remains uncommitted, while Malachi Nelson (No. 2, USC), Nicholaus Iamaleava (No. 4, Tennessee) and Jackson Arnold (No. 6, Oklahoma) have come off the board.

While some have billed the interest in 247Sports five-star quarterback Jaden Rashada as the result of him being the next domino to fall, that isn’t the case.

He’s clearly a prize worthy of top billing in a top-5 recruiting class nationally wherever he commits.

And many of college football’s top programs are acting accordingly.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound signal-caller, out of Pittsburg High School (Pittsburg, California), took a visit to the University of Miami (Fla.) beginning Thursday and the Hurricanes didn’t disappoint.

A source close to Rashada’s recruitment indicated that Miami (Fla.) may have the early lead in the battle for the five-star prospect, but confirmed that he did not silently commit during his trip as some rumors have suggested.

That’s good news for the Oregon Ducks, who are hoping to secure the West region’s top uncommitted passer.

Rashada will visit Eugene for the spring game on April 23.

The event, billed as “Duck Day,” will feature honorary coaches in former Oregon stars Arik Armstead, De’Anthony Thomas, La’Michael James and Haloti Ngata.

For Dan Lanning’s Oregon program, the trip could be a game-changer in Rashada’s recruitment.

“Oregon’s got big plans for him when he comes,” a source close to Rashada said.

ANALYSIS

The California product will visit Oregon, Arkansas and Ole Miss, but also has a return trip planned for Miami (Fla.).

Make no mistake, the Hurricanes have emerged as the team to beat for Rashada.

But several schools still have a shot to jump into the lead, particularly Oregon and Ole Miss.

The Ducks will get their shot to impress later this month.

Whoever secures Rashada’s commitment will be getting a potential program-altering talent, according to 247Sports national recruiting expert Chris Singletary:

“From a physical standpoint he has a frame and build that can add ample weight and strength. Checking in at verified 6-foot-3.5 half and weighing in at about 185 pounds you see that he has the mold to add at least 20 pounds of muscle easily. As he matures and gets stronger it will benefit his durability, long-term ability and development."
