Jayden Wayne, Washington 5-star edge-rusher, sets Oregon Ducks official visit

Lincoln High School (Washington) five-star defensive end Jayden Wayne will visit Oregon on June 24

The Oregon Ducks football program is off to a strong start to the 2023 recruiting cycle, highlighted by a pair of top-75 prospects: Basha (Arizona) four-star cornerback Cole Martin and Valley Christian (California) four-star wide receiver Jurrion Dickey.

But Oregon remains in the mix for several prospects who could eventually become class headliners, including Lincoln High School (Washington) five-star edge-rusher Jayden Wayne.

That interest is mutual.

On Thursday, Wayne confirmed he will take an official visit to Oregon on June 24. 

"I really like coach (Dan) Lanning and coach (Tosh) Lupoi," he said. "Coach Lupoi always takes the extra time when we meet. He truly loves to train." 

The trip is his second official visit set thus far, as he has previously announced a May 20 trip to Georgia. 

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound defensive end is rated the nation's No. 27 overall prospect and No. 3 edge-rusher with offers from more than 40 programs.

Wayne has already trimmed his list to a top 11 of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan State, Oregon, Texas, USC and Washington.

"Good 1st step and burst off the ball. Gains ground and causes the tackle to be immediately stressed by his penetration. Very good pad level which gives the defender little area to strike as he is rushing the passer or playing the run. Shows a good motor and want-to in chasing plays with nice lateral movement. Good agility and quickness, he is light on his feet and is a smooth effortless player. Rips off of blocks and does a good job in pursuit. With added strength and technique improvement he has all the tools you want in an elite defensive lineman. You are exposed to how good an overall athlete he is when you watch him play wide receiver."
