Rueben Bain, 4-star DL, loved Auburn 'beginning to end,' but Miami relationship 'second to none'
Miami Central High School (Florida) star Rueben Bain, the nation's No. 11 defensive lineman, is one of the top uncommitted prospects at his position anywhere in the country.
But that will soon change.
Hoping to announce a list of top schools soon prior to a winter decision, Bain took a visit to check out the Auburn Tigers last weekend.
While Auburn fell in a tight content to LSU 21-17, the 6-foot-2, 250-pound defender had high praise for the trip when asked to explain what stood out.
"The support system of Auburn," he said. "Everybody loved it from beginning to end, no matter the outcome. Everyone was passionate. It felt like what college ball is all about."
Still, with a nickname like "Hurricane," it should surprise no one that Miami is firmly in the mix.
And may well be the unspoken (heavy) favorite.
"(Our) relationship is great - second to none," Bain said. "(The) coaches are pulling at me hard and they keep in contact daily. And it’s not only football... just checking in on me."
That great news for Mario Cristobal's program, as Bain registered 48.5 tackles-for-loss and 29 sacks during an All-American junior season.
The Florida product said he intends to announce a list of top schools "soon," leading up to a decision before the early signing period in December.
It sounds as though both Auburn and Miami will make that top schools list, which matches his "rough draft" from September.
“Schools I’m leaning towards,” Bain told SBLive. “I’d say Auburn, Miami, FSU, Louisville, Oklahoma, Alabama.”
But "Hurricane" certainly sounds like a player enamored with the idea of staying home.
Bain's recruitment is worth watching closely, as it seems to be nearing a conclusion this fall.
