Cedric Baxter Jr., nation's No. 1 RB and Texas pledge, taking Florida State Seminoles return trip this weekend
The buzz is growing.
Two weeks after taking an unofficial visit to Florida State University, Edgewater High School (Florida) playmaker and Texas Longhorns five-star running back pledge Cedric Baxter Jr. is making a return trip.
This week, the nation's No. 1 running back tweeted that he will be taking an official visit to check out the Seminoles this weekend for their game against Georgia Tech:
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound ball-carrier was also on hand for Florida State's loss to Clemson on October 15.
Baxter is part of a dynamic group of running backs coming out of the state of Florida in the 2023 recruiting cycle.
Although a few members of the class have slipped slightly in the rankings, Florida still boasts five of the nation's top 15 ball-carriers, accounting for one-third of the country's top rushers.
So far, the "Big 3" - Florida, Florida State, and Miami - have had difficulty keeping that talent home - with only Trinity Christian Academy's Treyaun Webb (Florida) committing to an in-state school.
Could that number double with a Baxter change-of-heart?
It's still unclear, but Florida State is clearly getting a serious look from the in-state star this month.
It's definitely something to keep an eye on until he signs a binding National Letter of Intent.
Here's what 247Sports had to say, in part, about Baxter as a prospect:
"A potential workhorse on both Saturdays and Sundays. Looks the part with his big, muscular 6-foot-1, 215-pound frame. Should only add more mass once lifting in a college weight room. The type of running back that most defenders dread trying to tackle, especially when he’s got a full head of steam. Quick to pick a lane and get to work as he cuts up field in search of greener pastures. Up-right run style and impressive contact balance allows him to power his way through arm tackles and extend plays. Not necessarily a track star, but can win his fair share of foot races. More impressively, has a laser-timed 4.5 in the 40-yard dash on the ledger. Hasn’t been asked to catch a ton of passes on Fridays, but has shown on the offseason camp and 7-on-7 circuit that he’s more than just some check-down option as he can shake linebackers or even safeties and make contested catches."
