Gatlin Bair visits Oregon Ducks; High school coach releases statement on his behalf
It was a fascinating weekend on the recruiting trail - with multiple recruitments seemingly becoming much more complicated.
And the fallout was felt beginning Sunday, as a handful of top recruits announced decommitments and flips.
For the Oregon Ducks, the most significant recruiting development came via a series of moves that require putting some puzzle pieces together.
In October, Oregon went to a game of Burley (Idaho) four-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair, who was already committed to the Boise State Broncos.
At the time, the nation's No. 35 overall prospect and No. 9 wide receiver expressed that he appreciated Oregon's interest but remained committed to Boise State.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound pass-catcher did indicate, however, that he was willing to listen to the Ducks' recruiting pitch.
This weekend, that recruitment seemed to take a major pair of steps forward.
First, Bair took a visit to Eugene for Oregon's win over USC.
Over the weekend, Boise State also fired coach Andy Avalos.
When reached for comment Sunday, Bair declined to comment on the specifics of his recruitment.
He did, however, explain that Burley coach Cameron Andersen would release a statement on his behalf.
It reads as follows:
"Obviously the situation Gatlin committed to is not the present situation at Boise State. He is taking time in reflection to evaluate his options going forward."
Prior to his first commitment, Bair chose the Broncos over Michigan and Oregon, who are both still trying to flip the speedy pass-catcher.
Both programs appear likely to firmly re-enter the picture.
Overall, Oregon's 2024 recruiting class seems to be gaining some late momentum, similarly to how the Ducks finish last year.
That's particularly notable because Dan Lanning's class is already rated No. 6 nationally and is within striking distance of the best finish in program history.
