THREE STORYLINES

Is this Woodinville’s time to cut down the nets?

Not sure how anybody can pick against the Falcons at this point. They are the lone unbeaten in 4A, and have beaten a slew of 4A statebound teams (Beamer, Issaquah, Glacier Peak, Kentridge, Rogers) along the way. The only question is how will the Falcons’ lack of depth hold up playing for three consecutive days. Workhorses Mia Hughes and Veronica Sheffey will make sure that isn’t an issue.

It’s an even-numbered year, so will Central Valley rule Saturday night?

In 2016, the 4A Greater Spokane League powerhouse beat Snohomish for the 4A title. And two year ago, the Bears handled Woodinville. Can they do it again? They might not generate a whole lot of offense, but they just find ways to win games under first-year coach Felice Orrell, a Central Valley alum. Don’t be alarmed if they finish the deed.

People have dismissed Glacier Peak after back-to-back losses. Not smart

There is a reason why the Grizzlies were everyone’s preseason No. 1 ranked team - they are good, and just waiting to get on another roll. Forward Maya Erling is the tournament’s best player nobody has heard of, and point guard Aaliyah Collins is a game-changer on defense. The way Glacier Peak delivers knockout runs in games, it certainly has a puncher’s chance.

FIRST-ROUND MATCHUP TO KEEP AN EYE ON

Moses Lake vs. Rogers of Puyallup: If you like watching scoring guards go at it, this could be a doozy. Moses Lake’s Madisyn Clark, the CBBN player of the year, is dynamite off the dribble. Rogers-Puyallup’s Raigan Barrett, a UW softball signee, is a fearless shooter from all over. Whichever guard piles up the points should lead her respective team to a win.
