YAKIMA, Wash. — Annie Wright coach Dave Alwert has quipped that his Gators are so young, that they are all dropped off at practice every day because they aren't old enough to drive.

Young? Sure. Talented? Absolutely.

On Wednesday, they showed they can deliver on the big stage, too.

Hunter Carter scored 23 points and Martin Kaupanger added 19 and 10 rebounds to lead the upstart Annie Wright boys (in its second year as a program) to a 66-55 win over Seattle Academy in the first round of the 1A state tournament in the Yakima SunDome in the second-year program's first trip to state.

The win extends the No. 7 Gators' stay in Yakima and ensures a date in Thursday's quarterfinals with top-seeded King's at 10:30 a.m.

Seattle Academy led by as many 11 in the first half, but were outscored 23-12 in the fourth.Logan Britt had 26 points and nine boards for the Cardinals, whose season ends at 12-11.
