MONTREAL - Mike Komisarek is going to test the open market. But that doesn't mean he's done with the Montreal Canadiens.

The defenceman has decided to wait until after noon ET Wednesday before signing a new contract, giving him the chance to become an unrestricted free agent before making a decision.

"After much discussion and thought, Mike Komisarek has decided to enter the free-agent market tomorrow at noon," agent Matt Keator said in a statement on Tuesday. "Should they desire, we intend to keep Montreal involved in the process as they have treated Mike so well during his time in the organization.

"He remains interested in re-signing with them."

The 27-year-old Komisarek has spent his entire career with the Habs after being drafted seventh overall in 2001.

He is one of the highest-profile blue-liners available in free agency.
