WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester, Mass., will host the 2009 American Hockey League all-star game, the league announced Wednesday.

The event, which includes a skills competition prior to the all-star game, will take place in January at DCU Center - home of the Worcester Sharks, the top affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks.

"The American Hockey League is excited to be bringing its premier event to Worcester," AHL commissioner David Andrews said in a statement. "The AHL All-Star Classic is a showcase of our sport's very best young professional players, and a celebration of the American Hockey League and its storied history."

The 2009 event will mark the first time in 50 years that the AHL all-star game will be held in Massachusetts.

This season's all-star event is set for Jan. 27-28, 2008, in Binghamton, N.Y.
