An emotional Ryan Smyth says he has no hard feelings toward Oilers or Lowe

Publish date:

A day after he was traded from the Oilers to the New York Islanders, Smyth choked back tears as he read a statement and answered questions during a news conference at the Edmonton Airport. He says he found out about the trade through the media. While he was shocked by the news, Smyth says he has no hard feelings toward the NHL club or GM Kevin Lowe.

The Smyth move was the most shocking deadline day deal. The Oilers received prospects Robert Nilsson and Ryan O'Marra and a first-round draft pick in 2007 in exchange for the gritty winger.

Smyth is due to become an unrestricted free agent July 1 and will be able to sign with any team, including Edmonton.
