It's an end of an era – in two places.

According to Emily Kaplan of ESPN, the Tampa Bay Lightning have traded Tyler Johnson and the team's 2023 second-round pick to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for defenseman Brent Seabrook.

Johnson has been the speculation of trade rumors for a few years now, with Tampa Bay seemingly unable to move on with his $5-million cap hit for the next three seasons. Johnson had fallen out of favor in Tampa Bay, going unclaimed on waivers during the last free agency period and followed it up with 22 points in 55 games. Johnson is a two-time 50-point scorer, but with the Lightning's deep lineup, there wasn't room for him and his contract anymore.

In Chicago, Johnson should play a vital role down the middle. Of course, everything depends on just how healthy Jonathan Toews is, but this is a new beginning for a player with some offensive value to add. The news also comes on the same day that the Blackhawks acquired Marc-Andre Fleury earlier in the day from Vegas.

For Seabrook, the team officially says goodbye to one of the most important members of the team's dominant dynasty from 2010-15. Seabrook already retired from competitive play this season due to injuries, but Seabrook's contract still had three years left on his eight-year deal worth $6.875-million per season. Seabrook's contract will be buried in Tampa Bay to help create some cap relief.
