The top six forward core in St.Louis is getting a solid addition for the next few seasons.
After the St.Louis Blues acquired forward Pavel Buchnevich from the New York Rangers on Friday in exchange for Sammy Blais and the Blues 2022 second-round pick, the two parties came to terms on a four-year deal worth $5.8-million per season.
The move is an excellent one for GM Doug Armstrong. Buchnevich is coming off his third 20-goal season with the Rangers and will surely slot in nicely into the Blues' second line this coming season, and if it's called for is someone who has the ability to play on the top line.
This past season, Buchnevich put up 20 goals to go along with 28 assists for 48 points in 54 games. Buchnevich's goal total was second-most in Rangers goal-scoring (tied with Chris Kreider). Mika Zibanejad's 24 led the way.
The 6-foot-3 Buchevich also adds size to the St.Louis lineup and has the ability to play on the penalty kill while he played 19 minutes a night last season for the Rangers. The Blues are getting a true 200-foot player in their lineup.
