Boston Bruins assign goalie Hannu Toivonen to Providence of AHL

Toivonen, in his fourth year with the Bruins, played in Boston's 4-2 defeat Thursday in Buffalo, allowing four goals on 33 shots.

He has played 18 games for Boston this season, earning a 3-9-1 record and a goals-against average of 4.23. For Providence, Toivonen has appeared in 23 games, posting an 11-12-0 record and a goals-against average of 2.36.

Boston plays its final game Saturday against Ottawa.
