Boyd scores 10th goal in last seven games as Bulldogs beat Monsters

HAMILTON - Dustin Boyd increased his goal-scoring streak to seven games with the game-winner and David Desharnais had three assists as the Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Lake Erie Monsters 3-2 in American Hockey League action Thursday.

Boyd scored his 10th goal in seven games at 1:17 of the third period on a power play. Brendon Nash took a pass from Desharnais and centred the puck to Boyd, who tapped the puck past Monsters goalie Jason Bacashihua.

Desharnais now has 182 career points as a member of the Bulldogs, good for second on the franchise's all-time list.

J.T. Wyman and Ben Maxwell also scored for Hamilton (20-10-5).

Mark Olver and Ben Walter replied for Lake Erie (14-15-7).

The Bulldogs opened the game's scoring at 8:39 of the first period. Alex Henry sent a pass to Desharnais, who dished the puck to the right side of the net, where Wyman was stationed. Wyman's snap shot beat Bacashihua between his legs.

The Monsters tied the game 1-1 at 4:17 of the second period on a power-play. Julien Brouillette sent the puck to Matthew Ford, who blasted a one-time shot from the left point. Hamilton goaltender Robert Mayer made the save, but the rebound bounced out to Olver, who whacked the puck past Mayer and into the net.

The Bulldogs regained the lead at 15:13 of the second with a power-play goal. Desharnais attempted to jam the puck past Bacashihua, then Maxwell grabbed the loose puck and flipped it over the goaltender.

Lake Erie tied the game at 18:42 of the second with its second power-play goal. Patrick Rissmiller dished the puck to Walter, who was positioned at the top of the left faceoff circle. Walter skated towards the net before snapping a shot past the blocker of Mayer.

Mayer made 32 saves for Hamilton.

Bacashihua made 19 saves on 16 shots for Lake Erie before giving way to John Grahame, who stopped all five shots he faced in relief.
