Brock McGinn had a debut for the ages on Friday evening.

Just 55 seconds into his first NHL game, the 21-year-old Carolina Hurricanes left winger followed up on his own rebound and beat Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard to spot his club an early 1-0 lead. His first NHL goal. On his first NHL shift. In the first minute of his first NHL game.

The Fergus, Ont. native, playing on a line with veterans Eric Staal and Kris Versteeg for his first game in the show, added an assist on Staal's 3-0 goal at 6:15 of the second period. He ended up with 15:21 of ice time in the Canes' 5-3 win – the club's first of the season.

McGinn's quick scoring touch to begin his NHL career runs in the family. NHL Public Relations noted on Twitter that his brothers, Jamie and Tye McGinn, scored their first NHL goals in their second and third NHL games, respectively.

Carolina's second-round pick (47th overall) in the 2012 NHL draft, McGinn was recalled on Wednesday following a hot start with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers, which included two goals and 13 shots on goal in two games. In his first year pro with Charlotte in 2014-15, McGinn scored 15 goals – good for third on a team that finished tied for 28th in AHL scoring.
