Buffalo Sabres centre Gaustad could return from leg injury this post-season

Publish date:

Coach Lindy Ruff said Gaustad could start practising in a week. Gaustad was hurt Feb. 7 against Ottawa. He had surgery and had not been expected to return even if the top-seeded Sabres made a deep playoff run. "He's doing really well," Ruff said after practice Friday.

Gaustad had nine goals, tying a career high, and 13 assists in 54 games this season.

Centre Daniel Briere didn't practice Friday because of a sore leg, but is not expected to miss Game 2 Saturday of Buffalo's first-round series against the New York Islanders. Ruff said Briere was hit by a shot in the Sabres' 4-1 win on Thursday. He led Buffalo with a career-high 95 points this season.
