Canadiens forward Ryan White has successful surgery for sports hernia

MONTREAL - Montreal Canadiens forward Ryan White had surgery on a sports hernia and will be out of action indefinitely.

The team said the operation performed Wednesday was successful.

White, 23, was injured during training camp last month.

The checking forward had two goals and three assists in 27 NHL games last season.
