Capitals aim to continue home success vs. Panthers

Florida (9-11-3) at Washington (13-8-3), 7:00 pm EST

WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The Washington Capitals' high-powered

offense is quickly making the Verizon Center one of the most

feared places to play.

Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals look for their eighth consecutive

home victory Tuesday when they host the Florida Panthers.

Washington has been almost unbeatable in the nation's capital

this season, posting a 9-0-1 record at the Verizon Center. The

reigning MVP, Ovechkin has tallied eight goals and 15 points at

home this season.

After posting back-to-back home wins over the Atlanta Thrashers

and Montreal Canadiens, the Capitals failed to muster any

offense on the road and suffered a 3-0 setback to the Columbus

Blue Jackets on Saturday.

Ovechkin and the Capitals hope a trip back home can help them

forget about those offensive problems. But it may be tough

against the Panthers, who are coming off their best performance

of the season.

Craig Anderson made 37 saves for his second shutout of the

season and sixth career as Florida blanked the New York Rangers,

4-0, on Sunday.

Stephen Weiss and Gregory Campbell scored 12 seconds apart in

the second period for the Panthers, who won for the second time

in their last seven games (2-3-2).
