Capitals sign defenceman John Erskine to two-year contract extension

ARLINGTON, Va. - Defenceman John Erskine signed a $2.5-million, two-year contract extension with the Washington Capitals on Thursday.

Erskine could have become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, his third with the Capitals and seventh in the NHL. The new deal is worth $1.25 million each season.

He has one assist and 11 penalty minutes in five games this season. In 226 career NHL games with three teams, Erskine has six goals, 16 assists and 512 penalty minutes.
