Colorado Avalanche sign forward Steve Downie to 2-year contract

DENVER - The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Steve Downie to a two-year contract Friday.

The Avalanche acquired Downie from Tampa Bay on Feb. 21. He had 14 goals, a career-high 27 assists and 137 penalty minutes in 75 games last season between the two teams.

Downie was a first-round selection of Philadelphia in the 2005 draft.
