Cory Schneider makes 33 saves as Moose beat Heat 2-1 in a shootout

WINNIPEG - Cory Schneider turned aside 33 shots and didn't allow a goal in the shootout as the Manitoba Moose defeated the Abbotsford Heat 2-1 in American Hockey Leagu action Monday night.

Manitoba's Marco Rosa and Michael Grabner scored the only goals in the shootout as the Mooose improved to 19-14-4. Manitoba also beat the Heat 4-1 on Sunday. Abbotsford sits at 16-15-5.

The Heat had their fourth power-play opportunity of the game with just over two minutes left in the third period, but couldn't capitalize.

For the second straight game, Moose defenceman Brian Salcido scored the game's opening goal. His long shot beat Heat goalie Leland Irving on the stick side at 4:49 of the opening period.

The Moose had three power-play chances in the first period, including a late two-man advantage but had to settle for a 1-0 lead.

With Manitoba's Tommy Maxwell in the penalty box for roughing, Abbotsford tied it 1-1 at 17:51 of the second period when Jamie Lundmark buried his eighth of the season on a rebound off a scramble in front of Schneider.

Abbotsford outshot Manitoba 34-31 on the night.

Manitoba continues its eight-game homestand with games against Texas on New Year's Eve and Jan. 2.

Abbotsford travels to San Antonio for a pair of games Jan. 1-2 and Houston on Jan. 3.

Notes: The Vancouver Canucks recalled Moose centre Alexandre Bolduc on Monday, his second call-up this season. He had two goals and an assist with Manitoba in 13 games. The Moose also announced they released forward Mark McCutcheon from his professional tryout contract.
