Detroit Red Wings extend contracts of Ken Holland and Jim Nill

"Mr. (Mike) Ilitch wanted to get this done, so we're all very excited about it," said senior vice-president Jim Devellano, referring to the team owner. "Both of them had two years left on their contracts and other clubs were inquiring about both Kenny and Jim. So, we wanted to lock them up with contracts that will give us continued continuity in our front office."

Holland, who is also a vice-president of the team, was promoted to general manager in 1997 after 15 years working for the franchise in various front-office roles. Nill joined the front office in 1994.
