As was displayed throughout the regular season, the NHL's more offensively-skilled defensemen have continued to riddle scoresheets in the 2006 Stanley Cup playoffs.

The last time teams vied for the Cup, back in 2004, 23 defensemen tallied four points or more. Today, before the first round has concluded, 17 defensemen have already hit this ‘milestone'. Furthermore, not one rearguard with at least two points averaged a point per game last playoffs. This time around, eight blueliners can so far make that claim.

Detroit's Mathieu Schneider, the current playoff leader among blueliners with eight points in six games, ended his post-season with enough points to rank him 32nd in playoff scoring, had this been 2004.
