Flames sign goaltender, 2006 first-round pick Leland Irving

Terms of the contract were not announced. Irving, 19, was selected 26th overall by the Flames in last year's draft. In his third season with the Everett Silvertips, the Barrhead, Alta., native leads the Western Hockey League in goals-against average (1.57) and save percentage (.937) and is second in shutouts (six).

Irving also played for Canada's gold medal-winning entry at the world junior hockey championship in Sweden.

The six-foot netminder is the Silvertips' all-time leader in wins, games played and saves, and has a career goals-against average of 1.82 in 114 career games.
