EDMONTON - Several former NHLers will be helping the next wave of players later this month at the Top Prospects Game.
Former Edmonton Oilers stars Grant Fuhr and Glenn Anderson will help coach the home team during the Jan. 23 game at Rexall Place along with Don Nachbaur of the Tri-City Americans. Former Calgary Flames players Lanny McDonald and Mike Vernon will be behind the visiting bench with Kelly Kisio of the Calgary Hitmen.
The annual game is a showcase of draft-eligible players from the Canadian Hockey League. Steven Stamkos, currently ranked No. 1 by NHL Central Scouting, is looking forward to playing under Fuhr and Anderson on Team White.
"That's going to be a very exciting time for me," said Stamkos. "I'm definitely going to be there with ears open and trying to learn as much as I can from them."
Fuhr, Anderson, McDonald and Vernon all spent some time in the Western Hockey League during their junior days.
